She knows the kids are right, but at the same time the one with legal custody is Gladys, not Alice, yes Alice is a family member and has been taking care of Beth for the past few years but ultimately Gladys has the final say. Gladys already doesn’t like Anna for her appearance despite the fact that she’s been on honor roll, and Frank? We know he’s a good guy but in the eyes of Gladys? Hell nah.
Wait! Is that confirmation that Alice does not have parental rights over Beth in this version of the comic? I know she did in Cheap Thrills, but I didn’t know for sure if she does in Rigsby WI
As for the question Gladys is asking Beth in the preview, if I had a mother like Beth and was worried I would become like Gladys, then “Yes, I am terrified of the future! Terrified that I’ll end up like you!”
Alice knows how to deal with abusers like Gladys, and she knows the system. She’s also friends with Jeordie’s mom, who is a social worker (she had been Frank’s caseworker in Cheap Thrills and I’m guessing she probably was in this version too). She’s not making excuses, she’s clearly upset about it herself, she’s just trying to navigate an incredibly precarious system the way that will get Beth back the fastest possible. I do not envy the position Alice is in, although after this I wouldn’t be surprised if she pushes for custody – unfortunately Wisconsin doesn’t have emancipation laws or Liz would probably be on that like glue as soon as she got wind of this incident.
the preview panel omg aaaAAAAHHH IM NOT READYYY!!!!!!
How is it that Gladys and Alice are sisters?
Alice spittin’ excuses like she knows *exactly* how right these kids are & just doesn’t want to admit it to herself.
