Credit to Anna for realising pretty quickly that Beth’s view of the situation is probably pretty skewed.
“Because teens don’t make sense”
I’ve been in her damn shoes, I know I’ve had those episodes of ‘No, I’m just disgusting’ and DESPERATELY wanting someone to say I’m not BUT ALSO THEN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING seems to be what ‘snaps me out of it’. Teens are stupid!!!!!
At some point in my life I would agree, but since then I realised it is not stupidity: it is just trying to figure stuff out, which IS genuinly hard – especially since it is not something you can just iternalize from reading a book and most people around you are also trying to figure themselves out with varying success. Would you call a toddler stupid for still figuring out how to talk or walk?
Big part of figuring life out is how not to be too hard on yourself: try your best, but don’t beat yourself over failing – everyone messes things up.
Well said!
Honestly the only kind of media where I can handle all this lack of good communication is one where everyone is a teenager, because then it’s just to be expected XD If they all settled down to hash this out in a mature manner then it’d just be unrealistic! Even if it’s still SO painfully familiar from so much drama in my own life (I’m so glad to not be a teenager anymore)…
