makes sense. if I’m not misremembering, isn’t jeordie’s issue with bryan steming from his fear of being outed and his religious upbringing? like that’s the reason they’re not talking rn.
Damn… It’s like… she is well-meaning, but she has no filter? I am so conflicted.
On one hand, you can’t just guess someone is gay, even if she is right in this specific instance.
On another hand, if you are reasonably confident that your friend is suppressing a part themselves and harming themselves by doing that – pretending it is not happening is also not a great solution.
On the third hand (since we all got three of these), she is a kid, so it feels like her intentions should matter more than her actions, since she would naturally not figure out all the right actions yet.
I bet next page Jeordie will say something in a completely different perspective and I will feel stupid.
This takes place at exactly the same time I would’ve been their age. She’s genuinely about as forward-thinking on the topic as it got back then, *especially* in a rural area like that (my school was even smaller and more isolated than theirs). The fact that she’s even asking these questions means she’s been looking into it with what little resources were available at the time, and she’s genuinely being a good and concerned friend.
i saw someone share this comic on bluesky a while back and opened up a tab to read later, and then never got around to it, but now i just finished my binge and this is so great!! it’s such a messy and raw story but it’s ultimately such a kind one. and the art is so lovely!! i’m so looking forward to settling in for the continuing story
I think this friend means well but they’re definitely talking about Bryan being gay behind his back. They were talking about it when Jenna was giving Beth a “makeover.” I’m not gonna hold that against teenagers though. It’s the 90s/early 2000s and they’re trying their best with the given circumstances
God, Jeordie looks so pissed.

jeordie had feelings for bryan. bryan liked him back, but he panicked and pushed jeordie away. that’s probably a big reason why bryan is so depressed
