Wow, the dysfunctionality of the family’s matron is oozing out of the page: “Why doesn’t everyone know exactly what I mean without me having to spell it out?”. The painful thing is, how much of it got inherited by her daughter. I am actually feeling sorry for Beth’s mother as she probably does not even realise that she perpetuates the very things she hates.
I think she’s actually Gladys mother-in-law (Beth on the previous page goes “I’m just saying, she’s HIS mom”, talking about their dad). Fair enough to say she’s internalized a lot either way though, because I can picture Beth’s grandma being the kind of in-law that loves to lecture people on how to raise their kids.
I can bet that she did not even give lectures. She seems more of a type to just throw some snarky comments and jabs about how awful everyone is at what they do without ever saying anything constructive.
I just have a terrible feeling that she’s going to bottle up her frustrations about her MIL’s rudeness and take them aaall out on Beth later, because who makes a better emotional punching bag than your own kids, right. :\
Oh ffs. I think we all know people like that old lady. I sure did. Except i was meaner, I told the lady who was harassing me to find something to look for it herself. She cussed me out of the room, but I didn’t give a flip flap flyin’ flop.
Both presents that Gladys picked up are pink. Be more specific Edith! Don’t get mad at someone for “getting it wrong” when you weren’t more clear about which present you wanted passed to you!

True – forgot that is Beth’s father’s mother.

Oh no…this comic has achieved the impossible. I feel an inkling of a smidgen teensy bit bad for Gladys 🙁
