He didn’t really say anything racist. He made rude comments, so I could understand thinking that he’s judgemental, but he didn’t say anything that was technically untrue about ’em thieving and loitering. Again, he just kinda started calling ’em names in the previous page.
‘Cause there’re two sides. Is he being asshole-ish with a lot of his wording? Yes. Is he being an absolute prick for implying that he’d spring a random drug test on Jeordie for not only taking an unscheduled break, but because of who he hangs out with? Absolutely.
But people are thinking emotionally about this guy. I try to see things from a logical view. He’s running a business. As I pointed out before, he seems to know, or imply that he has proof of the other two of shoplifting, which means he’s probably also seen ’em steal booze before. Which…Frank proves he literally just did in the last page when he takes out not a flask, but a bottle of alcohol. He more than likely lifted it before they all headed out of the store.
So from the manager’s point of view, I don’t think it’s completely unwarranted for him to think that if Jeordie is hanging around other people like them, Jeordie might possibly do the same things that they do. Again, he could be more, I guess “politically correct (PFFFT),” with how he words things. And I’ll fully state that he’s a dick for threatening Jeordie with a random drug test. But logically speaking, he’s not entirely wrong. People seem to mostly be hung up on his attitude and name calling. But he does make some valid points.
I will confess to being irrational in calling the manager racist. It’s sort of a jump-able conclusion given that Rigsby is a small Mid-west town, and that Jeordie is of ancestry which many conservative whites tend to regard as sketchy.
We saw that blatantly demonstrated during the 9/11 Memorial assembly at the high school.
I stand by my labeling of Mr Goatee as Judgemental, a mofo, and a manager.
Good man yourself, Jeordie. It’s time to stop taking shit from these people.
Good for you, Jeordie. Got that Liz coming through.
jeordie OUT
As the old saying goes, “if it sucks, hit da bricks!”

your compulsion to run to the defense of asshole characters is interesting

Draven,
Your thoughts are indeed logical and balanced.
