clearly SE Case heard how sorry we were feeling for Jenna and decided to fix that. like. how is it sexist to ask a girl to treat you with common human decency. fuuuuuuuuck
Amen. Jenna could stand to be nicer, and Bruce could stand to be nicer. Frankly, the “sexist” comment is so out of nowhere that it comes off very blatantly as a self insert of the author’s own societal opinions.
Usually I don’t interject, but I’m confused by this comment?. I have specific memories of friends of mine in HS (and honestly? Even myself, to some extent) who had a sort of remedial understanding of feminism during this time period using this argument as a defense when getting called out for shitty behavior, so it seemed appropriate that Jenna would do the same.
And just like that, any shred of sympathy I had for her is gone again. So much for emotional development.
Claiming abuse / bigotry from conflicts or people that aren’t actually committing those things is a massive red flag.
If she’s claiming he’s sexist now, who knows what more serious offenses she’s willing to throw at him later on down the line.
She reminds me of the social media types that throw around “nazi” and “fascist” and “x-phobe” over minor conflicts and offenses. I feel like she’d be right at home among them if this took place today.
Jeordie needs to back up all of his interactions with her in case shit goes south and he needs evidence he didn’t do anything wrong, and then cut all contact.
And this is why I won’t feel sorry for her whatsoever. She might show a shred of progression one moment, but I knew she’d flip right back around to her usual attitude and annoying views. Just ’cause she might raise a good point or two doesn’t make up for everything we’ve seen of her before. And her outlook on different topics is so damned annoying. BLEH.
I think its kind of a shame to dismiss everything valid she’s going through based on one very typically-teenagery false assessment. I think figuring out this stuff (like what is sexism and what isn’t, what’s valid to push back against and what isn’t) is not always easy or clear to see, and most teens are kinda self-absorbed about this stuff anyway. Jeordie is of course 100% right to ask and expect her to be kinder to him, though.

Jenna, Queen of Emotional Whiplash
First, it isn’t sexist for one specific man to ask one specific woman to be nicer to him; especially if the two people are in a relationship.
Second, dudes do get called out for fucking with people, and it often involves violence; which I’m pretty sure you don’t want.
And just like that, any shred of sympathy I had for her is gone again. So much for emotional development.

jenna, i’ve said it before and i’ll say it again: you’re hard to love, but harder to hate
