she might be willing to listen and accept, but since this takes place in the early 00’s, they might both be living in that cultural moment where gay people weren’t totally accepted, but it was starting to be less and less cool to be homophobic. she might have brushed it off with the intention of not offending Anna. she also might not know how to talk about the idea of being gay without being jokey and Homophobic Lite in the way that a lot of well meaning straight people are.
Oh…This hurts. Anna’s story is so poignant and relatable to me. I remember being in high school and feeling that same alienation. I want things to get better for her so bad!
