good lord i HATE adults who’re like “mehhh children should SUFFER because it’s GOOD for them and you know I suffered as a child so i’ll be really bitter if other children DARE try to escape shitty situations that i couldn’t escape mehhhh”
Anna is a kid!! a kid with no food, no adults really parenting her, strange people going in and out of her home at all times… but god forbid we have sympathy for The Poors and their families :/
Because I know I’m motivated to take care of and improve myself when I have no food, no familial support, no sense of personal security, and no transportation.
Eric’s dad clearly missed his calling as a psychologist.
I relate to this page way too much. Somehow it’s the kid’s fault their parents are horrible and leave them in negligent situations, and the kid is supposed to figure out how to become some super capable, perfectly independent person even though nobody really taught them how.
God, Anna looks so tired. I remember feeling/looking that way when I was staying with a friend over the summer between junior & senior year to stay away from my dad & his alcoholic girlfriend.
I love the realistic situations this comic has; Cheap Thrills was similar but only sort of from the middle to later on, after the initial “Jordie wants to sleep with Jenna” arc, so it’s great so look back and see over the years both the progression in your art style (amazing) and also the growth of your narrative. It’s fantastic.
He definitely is the type to expect people to carry their own weight. But at the same time in CT, he lent his truck to Erik to help him move, and I believe he told him to call if he needed anything. So he’s a rough guy, but I don’t think he’s completely heartless. And we don’t yet know what went down between his brother Anthony and Anna’s mom in this story that’s making him this angry.
Something tells me Anna’s mom cheated on Anthony and that’s why Sal resents her, Anthony moved away and in Anna’s flashback there was such a violent confrontation.
But Anna has no fault in this so, why can’t she stay overnight Sal damn

Eric definitely takes after his mom. Thank goodness for that. >:\

At least Eric and his mom are cool…

how did someone so shitty like sal get someone so kind like diane
Sal never really got much screen time before, but Erik dropping the bomb on him in chapter four we got a pretty good idea about him.
But man, I wasn’t expecting him to be quite /this/ bad.

Sal, doesn’t your neck hurt from looking down on people that much? I think he and Archie Bunker were separated at birth.
