I remember situations like this. As an awkward teenager, I was uncomfortable and unsure and I felt ugly. Now I’m in my thirties and I think, that’s how teenage girls bond, I guess?
Oof this is awkward. It’s like… they’re being nice and actively trying to hang out with her, but every like… unintentional passive aggressive jab makes me really feel for Beth here.
Jennas friends, have been trying to include Beth and encourage her to relax and join in. But I love how you can tell how uncomfortable and unsure about everything Beth is. Its all coming from a good place, but non of it is what Beth is used to and this is how a lot of teenage girls bond- make overs or just messing with each others hair is fun.
I agree with other comments on here that the girls were just trying to make Beth feel included and having harmless fun, but poor Beth is going through an awkward phase and doesn’t know how to get into things.
I can certainly relate to Beth from my teenaged years and early 20s. Back then, I just wanted to crawl somewhere and hide when my friends would offer to play with my hair or make my eyebrows less unruly. Now, I’m all for the idea just to play around and have silly fun with friends. I wish I hadn’t looked at such simple interactions from such a scary angle as a kid. Oh well. Live and learn.

Just pointing out that sharing tweezers is a real good way to contract HIV.
