I’ve been re-reading the first chapter of Cheap Thrills and this is a much richer exploration of the ins and outs of teenage relationships. SE Case’s decision to spend a lot more time on Jeordie and Jenna’s relationship is really paying dividends
Ya know, I’m not even sure its the worst idea, Jeordie working at the resort. Jenna is going through a hard time, and might be helped by someone close to her able to provide some relief and protection.
BUT! I’m definitely getting the vibe here, this relationship is done. It genuinely sounds like there’s a basis of friendship here, that might be hurt by trying to hold onto the romantic aspect. I want these two to realize they can still have that.
I have read over this page a few times and it still doesn’t sit well with me how Jenna tries to shove the accountability/blame of her being alone with a creep like Boone to be some how Jeordie’s fault. Like, Jeordie already vocalized not wanting to even attend that party and even told Jenna while at the party he was going to get some fresh air because the people there were being shitty to him. Jenna decided to re-connect with a “childhood friend” who is much older than she is. Jenna even admits she is already familiar with creepy older guys always hitting on her and trying to groom her. Yet during the moment with Boone she couldn’t consider the implications of being alone with an older guy at a party with alcohol in someone else’s bedroom as a red flag?
Its not Jeordie’s fault you got your drunk ass in an awkward situation, Jenna. Especially when the rule of no one being allowed in the bedrooms was made clear by the party host apparently. Not saying Jeordie is blameless for abandoning her at the party but she could have gone outside with him instead but didn’t.

Pushing him to work at the resort is the smallest straw on this camel.

little typo – first page third word bubble jenna says ” but he’s was…”
it’s really refreshing to see both sides of this talk, because jeordie and jenna both have good ((and bad)) points to their argument
